History of Flower Market

花墟歷史

Before 1889, the Boundary Street served as the border separating the Republic of China and the United Kingdom. The provision of the border ruled out that it would open at 6 am and close after sunset. Since 1900s, Hong Kong had plentiful supply of fresh flowers and every morning farmers gathered and sold their flowers surrounding today’s Flower Market Road area. Hence, the name of “Flower Market” circulated.  

1889年以前界限街為中英邊界關卡，邊界關卡規定早上六時開關，日落之後閉關。由於1900年代香港有大量鮮花供應，每天花農集中於現今的花墟道一帶擺賣。他們稱此處為花墟，原因是廣東人把聚集成市、關閉之後即空置的市場稱為墟市，花墟因而得名。

At present, there are about 90 flower shops, 15 gardening supplies shops and more than 10 bouquet packaging shops. During the Lunar New Year, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, the demand for fresh flowers is so strong, making the Flower Market vivid.

現時旺角花墟約有90間鮮花盆栽店、約15間園藝用品店，以及逾10間食品及裝束店。每逢農曆新年、情人節及母親節等對鮮花需求殷切的日子，花墟都會非常熱鬧。

In Yau Tsim Mong District, the Flower Market is one of a must-go destination. If you are a flower lover, this place would definitely catch your eyeball. At Flower Market, you can discover the enchantment of blooming flowers. There are dozens of shops and wholesalers selling different kinds of flowers and other plants which are attractive, fresh and pretty. 

在油尖旺區，花墟市場是一個必須去的目的地之一。如果你是一個愛花之人，這個地方一定會吸引你的眼球。在花墟，你會被鮮花盛開的魅力所吸引。有數十家商店和批發商售賣不同種類的花卉和其他植物， 非常吸引，清新和漂亮。   

This place can really make people feel comfortable and pleasant. Sometime, I goof around the market when I am stressful. Mostly, I find that life is always colorful as aspired by those beautiful flowers; they can cheered me up. 

當我有壓力的時候，只要走一轉花墟，就能讓我感到舒適和愉快。而且，我發現七彩繽紛的花朵總能夠把我振作起來。

I suggest visitors who would like to shop at flower market can come here in the morning or sunset when they come in Yau Tsim Mong. This is because the condition of imported flowers is the utmost from a long way of freight transportation. 

我建議遊客可以在早上或日落時來到花墟市場，因為進口的鮮花這個時候是最美最新鮮的。

• MTR Prince Edward Station, Exit B1. Walk east along Prince Edward Road West until you reach the market.OR
• MTR Mong Kok East Station, Exit C. Walk to Sai Yee Street via the footbridge and follow the signs.
