Last time, we have show a photo of the old Hong Kong and actually it is the outlook of Yau Ma Tei in in 1880.

上一次只給大家看了幾張懷舊照片，相信聰明的你一眼就知道這是舊香港的昔日面貌。但仔細再看看這幾張相片其實是1880年的油麻地。

Yau Ma Tei, also known as Waterloo, Yaumatei, Yau Ma Ti, Yaumati or Yau-ma-Tee. It is one of the largest area in the Yau Tsim Mong districts in the south of the Kowloon Peninsula.

油麻地之名由來與油麻地天后廟有著密切關係。根據天后廟內1870年所立碑記，當時該地稱為「蔴地」。到了1875年，當時的「蔴地」是漁民曬船上麻纜的地方，再者有許多在那裡開設的補漁船桐油及麻纜的商店，故改稱為「油蔴地」(油麻地)。

Yau Ma Tei was a village in Kowloon and it was a beach and a bay which gather many fishermen before the ceding of Kowloon to the British in 1860. The Yau Ma Tei Typhoon Shelter is a well-known exotic water area where restaurants on boats offered some palatable seafood. Many visitors around the world will be attracted by these "Typhoon shelter dishes", not just only the good tasting but also the atmosphere.

在1860年割讓給英國之前，油麻地是九龍的一個村莊，它是由一個海灘和海灣所形成。
油麻地聚集了許多漁民，更是一個充滿著異國情調的區域。油麻地避風塘現已變成該區的地標，提供一些可口的海鮮，許多世界各地的遊客更因為著名的避風塘料理而慕名而來。

Except the traditional cuisine, Yau Ma Tei is also the place that contains different kind of style in between daytime and nighttime. During daytime, the Yau Ma Tei wet market and fruit market are the markets for buying souvenirs like dried noodles and some fruits.

 除了傳統的美食，油麻地在白天和夜間也包含不同種風格。在白天，在油麻地街市和水果市場是購買一些紀念品。

At night, it becomes a night market that selling various of product like DVD, clothes and so on. Temple Street already become one of the famous spot where people can buy any trendy accessories with a very low price and many visitors will come here as to obtain the amazing shopping experience.

著名街道廟街也在區內，每天晚上馬路周遭都會擺滿各式各樣貨品和食品攤檔。現在廟街已成為旅客的旅遊點，除了因貨品價格便宜之外，街道上也充滿著香港最傳統的地道特式。

 

Furthermore, there are many historic buildings in Yau Ma Tei, such as the Yau Ma Tei Theatre, Yau Ma Tei Water Pumping Station quarters (commonly known as the "Red Brick House") and Yau Ma Tei Police Station. Also, some fruit bar, Jade Market are very unique too that make Yau Ma Tei so different from other area in Hong Kong.

 此外，油麻地也有不少歷史建築物，如油麻地戲院、油麻地抽水站宿舍（俗稱「紅磚屋」）和油麻地警署。還有果欄、玉器市場和俗稱榕樹頭的油麻地休憩公園等地方，都極具特色。

Yau Ma Tei do not have many classical shopping mall and fancy car all around. Nonetheless, it is a place that full of love and warm. It has witnessed the evolution in Kowloon and our predecessor have contribute their effort in here that makes what Yau Ma Tei is today. It still has a lot we love to share with you about Yau Ma Tei and will continuously pursue different amazing spots in the upcoming weeks. 

油麻地這個地方，也許會令人覺得這裏舊舊的，髒髒的，四周都是舊式的大厦，沒有名牌街，沒有大得像迷宫的購物商場，每天早上街道上都是有很多工人在忙碌。所以人們並不覺得這裏有什麼值得欣賞的地方，但是當我們自己嘗試再用心去走走，去感受一下油麻地這 個地方時，我們發現原來這裏充滿着的是人情味和回憶，這裏的一事一物都擁有着濃厚的香港特色。而這些才是最珍貴，最值得去細味和欣賞的地方。所以在未來的兩個月裏，我們會帶大家走盡油麻地這個充滿着歷史和現代元素結合的城區，和發掘所有未曾發現的美麗地方！你準備好了嗎？
