History of Tenement House 唐樓歷史:

Tenement House is the architecture in Southern China, Hong Kong and Macau in the late 1960s to the 1800s and its architectural style mixed with East meet West feature. In the past, almost all Hong Kong people live in the old "Tenement House." The earliest Tenement buildings appeared in Hong Kong in the late 19th century with only 2-3 layers.

 唐樓是中國華南、香港及澳門一帶於19世紀中後期至1960年代的建築物，其建築風格以中西混合著名。在公共房屋以前，幾乎所有港人都住在舊式「唐樓」。而最早期的唐樓於19世紀中後期開始在香港出現，當時的唐樓只有2至3層。

Tenement House also known as the "Guangzhou-style arcade" at that time, because of its Guangzhou design features. The arcade supported by the brick pillars, and across the footpath. Hong Kong's population growth dramatically after World War II and thus increase the housing demand. Hence, lot of people prefer Tenement House which have lower rental fees.

唐樓在當時俗稱為「廣州式騎樓」，這是因為其廣州設計特色，騎樓以磚砌支柱支撐，並跨出唐樓前的行人路。香港人口在第二次世界大戰後急增，人們對房屋需求增加，故不少唐樓都被用作分租。而著名的「包租公」或「包租婆」都會定期向各住戶「收租」。

 Another remarkable features of Tenement House is the combination between shop (Front parts) and residential (Back & Upstairs parts). For now, we can only find our way to back to the past and appreciate this unique building from photo.

前舖後居是唐樓另一大特色：地舖前面部分是做生意的地方，後面和樓上部分則是住宅。除著時代變遷，舊日熱鬧的唐樓景致已不復再，只能從相片中尋找回憶。

 In Yau Tsim Mong, there have one special Tenement House called Lui Seng Chun located in Lai Chi Kok Road, Mong Kok. It was established by the Kowloon Motor Bus founder Lei Liang in 1931. In 2003, the KMB descendants were donated to the Hong Kong Government, and changed into a museum.

Reclamation Street Market is one of the most popular open-air bazaar market in Yau Ma Tei, it gradually formed after the Second World War and located between the North Sea Street and Gansu Street.

新填地市集是其中一個在油麻地最熱鬧的市集露天市集，在二次大戰後漸漸形成，位於北海街與甘肅街。

In Reclamation Street Market, you will be attracted by a green tin stalls with different size and decoration. Many visitors will be love to visit the market because of its unique street design. Weather will definitely be the major problem in Reclamation Street Market as it is an open-air bazaar. However, it inspire people's creativity such as  installed the retractable iron or hung upside down the umbrella to prevent rain and also keep off the sun.

This film library is celled Kubrick, which is named by movie guru--- Stanley Kubrick, and it was established by the Broadway Film cinema. The Broadway film cinema is the first film cinema in Yau Mai Tei, which was built in 1996 and it is the biggest cinema among the Broadway Circuit. The most impressing thing is that this big business film company located in Yau Mai Tei this old community. 

這電影庫名為布里克，這是用電影大師斯坦利 - 庫布里克來命名。它是由百老匯影院成立。百匯影院是油麻地的第一間電影院。始建於1996年，它是百老匯院線中最大的電影院。最令人印象深刻的是，這個大電影公司座落在油麻地這個舊社區中。

 Inside the shop, there are many films related books, CDs and artistic well paintings. We are surrounded by the great coffee smell and the warm and relaxing phenomena. We are super excited when we saw the numerous films DVDs on the wall shelf. And we can also find many different books of Films theories, Artistic Culture books and magazine. Jade Market located in between Yau Ma Tei Street and Battery Street, there are nearly five hundred jade stall, which makes Jade Market become the largest destination of jade and gem transactions place in Kowloon. In the past, most of the Jade traders were often operate their business by stall, commonly known as Jade Street. Nevertheless, due to the substantial increase in the number of stall which seriously affecting the traffic in Canton Road. Hence, In 1984, the government moved all the jade stall into its present site, until it becomes renowned destination in Yau Tsim Mong.

玉器市場位於油麻地甘肅街及炮台街交界，內有接近五百個玉器攤子，是九龍最大的玉器和寶石交易之集中地。從前的玉器商販在廣東道附近以地攤形式擺賣，俗稱玉器街。但因其後地攤數目增加，嚴重影響廣東道一帶的交通。在1984年，政府把所有攤檔都搬到現址，直至成為今日油尖旺人所皆知的玉器市場。

玉器市場用上了柔和的燈光再加上各商舖互相聊天，令整個環境增添了一份濃烈的人情味。

History of Jade Market 玉器市場歷史

 In 1950, a group of Jade trader from Guangzhou has moved to Hong Kong because of the  civil war. They are concentrated mainly in Canton Road and  opened jade store. In 1970,   it has exceeded 100 jade shops. After the U.S president visited Hong Kong in 1972, jade sales have increased significantly, and its related shops has more than 300. Since then, Jade Market has become a hot Yau Tsim Mong Destination.

在1950年，一批從廣州玉器商人因深受到國共內戰的影響，先後移居到香港。他們主要均集中在油麻地一段的廣東道開設玉器店舖，到了1970年玉器商鋪已 經超過了100間。美國總統尼克遜於1972年訪華，引起一陣的「中國熱」，玉器銷量因而大增，其相關店舖更超過300多個，從此玉器市場成為了油尖旺區 的一個旅遊熱點。


One of the most unique feature in the jade market is the existence of "Mr Writer"  which left only eight stalls in Hong Kong. Furthermore,  "Mr. Writer" were entered the Jade Market earlier than any other Jade traders.

最特別的是在玉器市場內，存在了香港僅有的八檔「寫信先生」，他們比玉器商販還早進駐玉器市場。

Nowadays, Jade Market already become a Must-Go Destination in Yau Tsim Mong and lot of visitor will come here as to experience the old Hong Kong jade culture. Except the foreign visitors,  the older generation of local passenger also come Jade Market very often. I still remember my family and i love to visit Jade Market as attempt to discover some precious treasure in here. Besides,  i feel very curious about the Jade buyer who always use some  mysterious and professional gesture while they bargaining the price. It is really memorable and would like to know what is the actually meaning of those gesture.
 
現時玉器市場已是遊客到油尖旺的其中一個必到之處，好好感受下昔日香港的玉器文化。除了吸引外國遊客外，年長一輩的本地客也是玉器市場的常客。還記得小時 侯與家人來過了玉器市場，看到有許多玉石買家以既神祕又專業的手勢議價，實在是令人很難忘，很想知道那些手勢其實是代表著什麼。

Yes, you are right, it is Yau Ma Tei Police Station! 
無錯，這就是油麻地警署!

Yau Ma Tei Police Station was built in 1873 and move its location in 1922. After World War ll, Yau Ma Tei Police Station made a huge extension and it become the largest police station in Yau Tsim Mong district. From time to time, government always intended to demolish the police station for another construction plan. However, many different plan ultimately suspended  or make alternative changes due to the substantial social repercussions. In 2009, Yau Ma Tei Police Station was classified as Grade 3 historic building which reflect its historic value.
在1873年， 油麻地警署創建於上海街及眾坊街交界，即現時梁顯利油麻地社區中心位置，上海街當時也此稱為差館街。後期警署於1922年遷往廣東道及眾坊街交界，在二次大戰後更擴建多座大樓，成為了九龍 半島歷史最悠久的警署。其實政府一直都有意拆卸警署以作其他興建計劃，但都因社會回響甚大，最終都只好把計劃作出修改或擱置。在2009年，油麻地警署被批為三級歷史建築，可見其歷史建築價值。

Yau Ma Tei Police Station was built in Edwardian Free Style which totally reflect its old Hong Kong building style and gorgeous enough to highlight the authority of police. It contains total 3-storey police station, left and right wings synthesis of a hook-shaped building. The old police station has been altered, such as gold gable roof changed to flat.
油麻地警署屬 愛德華式建築，以花崗石砌成主要結構，設計十分華麗，足以突顯警隊的權威。 警署樓高3層，左右兩翼合成一個勾形建築。舊翼曾經被改動，如金字形屋頂更改為平頂。

Yau Ma Tei Police Station definitely make a great contribution in recording the changes of Yau Tsim Mong. As the largest police station in Yau Tsim Mong, Yau Ma Tei Police Station always play an important role and become the sign of justice. I still remember my Tai Wan friends - Hiu Lam who come in Hong Kong last year and I suggested her to take a visit of Yau Ma Tei Police Station. She shows a big surprise of her face when we arrived as she mentioned that she never see such building can make her feel so remarkable. I hope you guys will also take some time and visit this precious building in Yau Tsim Mong.
油麻地警署絕對紀錄了油尖旺的變化有著很大的貢獻。在油尖旺中，油麻地警署始終發揮著重要作用，並成為正義的象徵。 還記得上年我台灣的朋友 - 曉琳來到了香港，我建議她去油麻地警署一趟。當我們到達，她說沒有看到這樣的建築可以讓她有著深刻的印象。我希望你們也可以拿出一點時間，好好參觀一下在油尖旺中這珍貴的建築。

Although we only spend a half-day in Temple Street and still able to feel the atmosphere in here. We have arrived Temple Street around 6pm and most of the store has already open. It really feel good to visit Temple Street at night when the wind flap through our face softly. Finally, we all enjoy a wonderful dinner and have a very full feeling in our stomach. It is really nice!
雖然我們在廟街只留了半天，但仍然能夠感受到當地的氣氛。我們到達廟街時已經大約下午6點左右，大多鋪頭都已經在營運。最後，大家都享受美好的晚餐，這次廟街之行實在太好了！
