Last night, we just have a throwback of TST history and we love to share another unique districts - Mong Kok to you today. 
昨天晚上我們了解到尖沙咀的歷史,今天我們再與大家分享另一種獨特的地區 - 旺角

Major changes

重大改變

  • 1910 - The establishment of a ferry pier which allowed a regular route to be run between Hong Kong Island and Mongkok Tsui as the village at that time.  There remains a few old village but Shanghai Street which still exists was once it's main road and linked it to the neighbouring villages of Yau Ma Tei on one side and Sham Shui Po on the other.

  • 1925 - 1927 - Police Station built and also Shui Yuet Temple become a protected historic building.

    大石古觀音廟(水月宮)更成為受保護的歷史建築


  • 1960s - The old Army football become a public sports facility after the New Territories was handed over to the Urban Council. Today this is Mongkok Stadium, one of the main football area in the territory.

Mong Kok's alternative given name 旺角的另一個名稱


In the past, Mong Kok was originally called ‘ 芒角’ (Jyutping: mong4 gok3 ), which was named for its substantial supply of ferns when it was a coastal region. Later on, the government began reclamation and construction projects and built infrastructures. The development of laundry, dyeing and other industrial emerged. In 1930s, ‘ 芒角’ was officially renamed Mong Kok when the construction of Kowloon-Canton Railway as developers hope the district to be prosperous.
在過去,旺角原名芒角(粵拼:mong4 gok3),因為古時此處芒草叢生,有一個像牛角的形狀伸展入沿海區域。後來,香港政府開始在旺角海邊附近填海及建設基礎設施,該處開始出現碼頭和道路,開始發展出洗衣及染布等輕工業。在1930年,芒角正式改稱為旺角,取其興旺之意。

Nowadays, Mong Kok is a busy commercial and residential district (Shang hai Street Tong Lau) with extremely high population density and mature transportation network. It is famous for the mixture of old and contemporary style of buildings with an array of retail stores, restaurants and entertainment. In addition, the area is known locally for a youth subculture, the Mong Kok culture.


時至今日,旺角已成為了一個極為繁盛的購物區和住宅區(上海街唐樓),具有極高的人口密度和成熟的交通網絡。同樣亦為九龍西直通新界各區的最大樞紐。旺角有著古老和現代風格的建築與零售商店,餐廳和娛樂場所。此外,該地方亦被稱為青年亞文化旺角文化

A dominant feature of Mong Kok is the preservation of traditional markets, small shops and food stalls that cannot be easily found in other districts at the moment. Some of its streets and markets with their own characteristics are remarkable and attractive to both local and foreigners. Moreover, there are some other antique destinations which reflect another side of Mong Kok. 

There have some famous spots in Mong Kok and well-known by the visitors such as
